FAQ’s Episode 2: Understanding the Xenon Connect Bookkeeping Health Score

Not sure what your Bookkeeping Health Score actually means? In Episode 2 of our FAQ series, Gareth explains what it is, how its calculated, why it’s useful and what accountants and bookkeepers should be aiming for.

What is the Bookkeeping Health Score?

Simply put, the Bookkeeping Health Score is a metric that measures the overall quality of an organisations bookkeeping data.

Rather than manually reviewing countless transactions to identify issues, Xenon Connect automatically analyses the bookkeeping data which gives you a clear percentage score that reflects the overall health of the records.

This allows accountants, bookkeepers and business owners to quickly understand if their bookkeeping is in good shape or whether attention is needed.

How is the Health Score calculated?

The Bookkeeping Health Score isn’t just a random percentage. It’s calculated using the results of Xenon Connects checks, with each issue contributing to the overall score based on its severity.

For example:

– Older unprocessed bank transactions will have a greater impact than newer ones.

– High-value transactions affect the score more than low-value transactions.

– Long overdue unpaid invoices and unpaid supplier bills can reduce the score significantly.

– Other bookkeeping issues identified by Xenon Connect also contribute to the final score, with some checks carrying more weight than others.

This means the score reflects not only the number of issues found but also how important those issues are.

By prioritising the most significant bookkeeping problems first, firms can improve data quality far more efficiently.

Why is it useful?

The Health Score provides a quick, easy-to-understand snapshot of bookkeeping quality. Instead of spending valuable time searching for problems, accountants and bookkeepers can immediately identify where attention is needed and focus on resolving the issues that matter most.

Some of the key benefits include:

– Quickly understanding the overall quality of bookkeeping.
– Prioritising clients who need attention first.
– Identifying issues before they become bigger problems.
– Improving bookkeeping standards across your client base.
– Saving time by focusing on the transactions with the greatest impact.

Whether you’re managing a handful of clients or hundreds, the Health Score helps you make smarter decisions about where to spend your time.

What is considered a good Bookkeeping Health Score?

Every accounting or bookkeeping practice may have slightly different standards, but as a general guide, 80% or above is a great target.

Within Xenon Connect, you’ll notice the Health Score changes to green once it reaches 80%, making it a simple visual indicator that the bookkeeping is in good shape.

However, it should be remembered that every client is different. The final score will always depend on the age, value and severity of the underlying bookkeeping issues, so there isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer.

The important thing is continual improvement. By resolving the highest-priority issues first, firms can steadily increase their clients’ Health Scores and maintain higher-quality bookkeeping over time.
